A lot of metaphorical ink has been devoted to the places with the longest names — for example, Taumatawhakatangihangakoauauotamateaturipukakapikimaungahoronukupokaiwhenuakitanatahu, the name of a hill in New Zealand, or Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch, the name of a community of villages in Wales. But there are some interesting places at the other end of the spectrum, too. Some town names are just two letters long; a few even shrink down to one. These seven places have some of the shortest names in the world.
