If you’ve ever been quizzed on the U.S. state capitals (or even international ones), you know that some are easier to guess correctly than others. In the case of Boston, Massachusetts; Indianapolis, Indiana; or Salt Lake City, Utah, the state’s most well-known city also happens to be the capital. But other times, you won’t find the Capitol building in the largest metropolis or the most famous city of a particular state. While some capital cities are smaller and lesser-known, they’re no less steeped in history and appeal for visitors. Here are eight such capital cities (that everyone seems to get wrong).
